How NabeStats.com Works
We aggregate data from trusted government and public sources to give you a comprehensive snapshot of any neighborhood in the United States.
Our Data Sources
Safety
FBI UCR crime data with national average comparisons and deterministic trend generation for consistent results. Safety ratings based on national benchmarks.
People & Economy
Census ACS 5-year data including population, median income, education levels, and poverty rates. All metrics include national average comparisons for better benchmarking.
Housing
HUD Fair Market Rents and Census median rent data to provide housing cost benchmarks for the area. Includes national median rent comparisons for affordability context.
Environment
Real-time air quality data from OpenAQ and AirNow, plus EPA drinking water system information and violations.
Schools
SchoolDigger rankings (normalized to a 1–10 scale) blended with NCES directory data for grade spans, enrollment, student–teacher ratios, and lunch program coverage. When statewide rankings are missing or rate limits are hit, we fall back to NCES details so the Schools card stays informative.
Mobility
Walk Score ratings, INRIX parking costs, and Transitland data showing nearby transit options, walkability, and bike-friendliness. Our comprehensive mobility rating combines walk score (60%) and transit score (40%) for an overall assessment with real-time parking data.
Recreation
Real-time data on parks, gyms, museums, tourist attractions, stadiums, and aquariums within walking distance. Dynamic recreational facilities and outdoor activities based on available venues in your area.
Dining & Entertainment
Comprehensive dining and entertainment options including restaurants, bars, breweries, nightclubs, and live music venues. Cuisine types and entertainment options dynamically generated from real venue data.
Our Methodology
Data Accuracy & Coverage
We use the most recent available data from official sources. Crime data comes from FBI UCR with national average comparisons and deterministic trend generation for consistent results. We clearly indicate data coverage levels and provide safety ratings based on national benchmarks.
Geographic Boundaries
We use Census ZCTAs (ZIP Code Tabulation Areas) and counties for consistent data joins. When exact ZIP code data isn't available, we show the nearest ZCTA approximation.
Rates vs. Counts
Crime data is always displayed as rates per 1,000 residents, not raw counts, allowing for fair comparisons between areas of different sizes.
Transparency
Every data point includes source attribution and methodology notes. We believe in building trust through transparency about our data sources and calculation methods.
